New Year's Eve fireworks are a huge carrot for celebrations on the last night of the year. There'll be not one, but TWO fireworks displays at Lasseters Hotel Casino; a family friendly event at 9pm and one for the grown ups at midnight.
Management at the facility say they've doubled the budget for fireworks this year to celebrate the end of their two-year $40 million re-development project.
The fireworks will be part of a free open-air concert featuring local bands Wolfpack Amadeus and Square Edge Circles.
'There'll be food stalls, beverages, you can bring your picnic rug, bring your chair, listen to the bands and watch the fireworks,' says Lasseters Sales and Marketing Manager Paul Bailey.
(For those worried about their animals, Jill Hall from the Alice Springs Animal Shelter says keep your dogs inside and if you're going out, turn on some music.)
Those keen for a dance party can head over to the Convention Centre to see Ministry of Sound's Tom Piper (and his robot) in action, also featuring DJ Marky Loose and DJ B.O.A.S.
A little further out of town is Jeanette Wormald's Musical Farewell at Glen Helen, 130kms west of Alice Springs but well worth the trip.
The night will be a truly eclectic mix of jazz, African, Latin and Salsa with musicians including King Marong, Bec Matthews and Macumbale's Carlos Naranjo and Pete Gillam.
Punters are encouraged to dress 'circus'.
'This is my final night in the Territory before I drive out to Cairns and a new life tomorrow,' says Ms Wormald.
'So it's a big finale for me and I think it's magnificent that the music's going to be so much a focus.'
(Also performing will be young Arrernte musican Jake Turner who at just 16-years-old is a force to be reckoned with on the drums.)
Meanwhile there'll be reggae and R&B at the Gapview Hotel with DJ Nois, and Ezra James, supported by DJ Vella (tickets $25 at the venue.)
Karaoke at Uncles Tavern and local band Late Scratching at the Gillen Club which is open til 2am (courtesy bus available from 7pm).
